safeSPACE™

safeSPACE™ is PCYC’s core diversionary program, and in many of our locations, it is the only option available for young people.

The program provides access to qualified youth workers and enables young people to participate in recreational, cultural, and developmental activities. Our services are tailored to local needs and co-designed with young people, Aboriginal Elders, Aboriginal Corporations, and the community.

Many of the young people engaged with safeSPACE™ face food insecurity, so we offer healthy, nutritious meals cooked on-site.

Transforming young lives

PCYC also provides transport to help young people access our services, removing a major barrier. After each session, we ensure they are returned home or to a designated drop-off area, minimising exposure to anti-social behaviour.

A significant number of safeSPACE™ participants identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, underscoring our commitment to building essential partnerships with Aboriginal Elders and Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisations for program consultation and engagement.

PCYC is dedicated to recruiting and retaining local Aboriginal staff, understanding that positive role models are essential for the success of both the youth and the program.

safeSPACE™ youth programs

safeSPACE™ is proud to deliver a range of programs to engage young people no matter their circumstances.

Drop-in

This program provides a safe space for young people to engage in activities, enjoy meals, and socialise with peers, supported by Youth Workers. Each Centre has a different approach, including breakfast clubs, school holiday activities, and weekend events that enhance community support alongside after-school sessions.

Targeted programs

These referral-based programs cater to young people identified as at-risk by referring agents. They offer specialised activities that promote personal development and empower participants to realise their full potential.

Special events

PCYC hosts various events for young people aligned with the community calendar, such as NAIDOC Week and Youth Week. These events provide opportunities to engage with young people and showcase our programs to the wider community. Our Centres serve as community hubs, fostering collaboration among local stakeholders.

Youth programs for all

These programs are designed in conjunction with the Western Australia Police Force, the community, other key partners, and are often inspired by the young people themselves.
