Blue Light™ expands across the state

Three new Blue Light™ Youth Activity Units opened this month in Bidyadanga, Coolgardie and Esperance, providing more activities for young people in remote communities.

Blue Light™ Youth Activity Units are established in remote and rural areas where there is no PCYC Centre. Units are managed by Police Officers who organise events and activities where young people can let their hair down and have fun in a safe, supervised environment away from negative influences such as drugs and alcohol.

The new Units mean that children and young people living near Bidyadanga, Coolgardie and Esperance will be able to enjoy pool parties, movie nights, discos and sporting activities that they’ve never had regular access to before.

Blue Light™ Youth Activities Coordinator Rajan Flint, said the "Units are essential to the remote and rural communities, not only to entertain children and keep them active, but to help prevent anti-social behaviour that often stems from boredom and encourage positive lifestyle choices.”

Last year, Blue Light™ activities were rolled out as far and wide as Boddington, Boyup Brook, Carnamah, Dwellingup, Jigalong, Kambalda, Kellerberrin, Kojonup, Mount Magnet, Narrogin, Newman, Northampton, Warburton and Wyndham.

With more funding ideas in the pipeline, it is our aim to increase outcomes by reaching as many young people as possible in remote and rural communities across WA.
