Exmouth kids next generation of coders

Exmouth PCYC children are learning how to build a website and program a reticulation system thanks to 25-year-old volunteer Jackson, who has been teaching young people how to code as part of the Exmouth PCYC CoderDojo Program.

The CoderDojo movement believes that an understanding of programming is increasingly important in the modern world and that cost shouldn’t be a barrier to any child from learning.

Lauren Rampling, Exmouth PCYC Manager, said the program creates a place where young people can come together to learn in an informal creative environment.

“Our coders love working with Jackson and get exposed to skills they never would anywhere else,” said Lauren.

Jackson, who is a Space Radar Technician with Raytheon Australia, loves sharing his technical knowledge and passion for coding to help the young people explore technology and learn a variety of skills.

During Covid-19 coders have also been able to work remotely through ‘Digital Making at Home’ sessions which provide code-along videos, delivered by CoderDojo.

Jackson had also developed a blog so that our PCYC participants could continue to learn whilst our Centres are temporarily closed.
