Experience of a lifetime for Collie kids
“Collie kids are awesome!” - Collie PCYC Centre Manager’s motto is spot on as safeSPACETM children and young people put their brave faces on and jumped into indoor skydiving.
The excursion was the cherry on top to finish Collie PCYC’s school holiday program, made possible thanks to the support of Synergy. For the past two weeks, safeSPACETM participants learned lots of things: making pizza wheels and pikelets, baking scones and cupcakes, tie-dyeing t-shirts… and now flying has been added to their list of new skills!
Waking up at 6.00am for the exciting journey, the children, PCYC staff, and Youth Police Officers hopped on a bus for the two-hour drive to Perth iFly. After an induction on flying techniques, it was time to change into the flying gear and helmet: the excitement and nerves were palpable as the free fall experience drew nearer!
Accompanied by their instructor, the young people stepped into the flying tube one after the other, learning to trust fall on the 120mph blast of air keeping them afloat.
Once the adventure came to an end, the young people were exhilarated and exchanged their impressions: “It’s the best day of my life!” said Mahalia, 13.
“It wasn’t too scary,” said another participant – “He’s lying!” joked another.
All just can’t wait to do it again. Check out the video and photo gallery to see how well they did!
