Friday nights are always fun at Collie PCYC safeSPACE™
Collie PCYC has experienced tremendous turnouts at their Friday night safeSPACE™ sessions, drawing in young people week after week with a diverse range of engaging, free activities for ages 12-17.
Last Friday Collie came incredibly close to breaking their all-time attendance record, falling just two people short of the impressive 70 young attendees.
“We’re particularly proud of our older participants who have been modelling exceptional behaviour and play a big part in helping others to thrive in this positive environment”, expressed Linda Gallagher, Collie PCYC’s Centre Manager.
The fun and safe atmosphere created by Collie PCYC staff is undoubtedly a key factor in the high engagement of young people. The team is constantly researching, training, and developing new innovative ideas to bring to the program.
Consistent attendance can also be attributed to the regular appearance of local Youth Police Officers. Some officers even attend when they’re off duty simply because they enjoy connecting with the young people.
Children eagerly welcome the Officers’ involvement in fun activities, such as indoor tennis, billiards, gladiator games and even demonstrations on the didgeridoo!
This collaborative effort between the Police and Collie PCYC’s programs has had a real impact on the Collie community reflected through low levels of youth crime.
