Kids vs Cops Basketball Match
An exciting new initiative in the Merredin community brings local young people together for free basketball sessions every Friday, known as 3 Point Fridays.
The initiative first began when Merredin Police Officers were challenged to a game of 3 on 3 at a local basketball game. With a lot of basketball talent in Merredin, the Officers soon realised they had some serious competition ahead of them.
3 Point Fridays has been a huge success, with up to 50 young people between the age of 8 and 18 attending each week, as well as a number of spectators.
Not only do these games allow young people to get active and make friends, the initiative also provides a great opportunity for them to engage with local Police Officers and build positive relationships outside a traditional police setting.
Although no official winner was announced, the initiative has been a win win for the Merredin community.
