PCYC celebrates WA Youth Week
Youth Week was a big week for PCYC as we celebrated the incredible young people who come to our youth centres.
The theme for Youth Week this year was ‘Becoming: with others we dream’ which focuses on how young people can dream themselves a better world (no matter how big or small), and then use their skills, love, care, and knowledge to realise it. The theme emphasised how an individual’s actions and achievements are nothing without the context of their community.
In keeping with the theme, we organised events that centred around their local communities to inspire young people and demonstrate the wide array of support that is available to them.
Our Geraldton Centre collaborated with other youth service providers, such as headspace, Desert Blue Connect, Centacare Family Services, and other local organisations, to run a community event with stalls and activities. Young people made their own dreamcatchers at the PCYC stall.
Kalgoorlie PCYC organised a Youth Week poetry slam night, where young people bravely recited original poems in front of an audience. The Centre also partnered with PITCHED Silent Disco and Heart of Gold Dance Company to host a disco and aerial workshop.
Collie safeSPACETM kids went on an excursion to Gravity, where they spent two hours bouncing on trampolines, competing in 1v1 battles on a narrow beam, and participating in fun activities set up by other youth and community organisations. There were gift bags, free food and DIY arts and crafts on offer, so the teenagers were spoilt for choice!
