PCYC gymnasts compete at Singapore Prime Invitational Competition
Sixteen gymnasts from WA PCYC flew to Singapore to compete in the 2023 Prime Gymnastics Invitational Competition.
It was an exciting moment for the gymnasts and PCYC as the first international competition since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The girls, aged 9 to 14, along with their coaching team, competed in a three-day competition against over 600 gymnasts from 36 clubs across Asia Pac. Competitor countries included Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, India and China.
The young gymnasts showed incredible strength and determination, competing in the vault, uneven bars, balance beams and floor across four levels – Novice Level 4, Novice Level 5, National Level 6 and National Level 7.
The competition was tough with a high standard of gymnastics displayed by other clubs. Regardless of the medal tally, our gymnasts made PCYC proud with their performances and the way in which the conducted themselves across the three days.
A highlight of the competition was 9 year old Ivy Brown winning a bronze medal for her outstanding Level 4 vault in the last session of the competition.
Next year is the 30th anniversary of the Prime Gymnastics Invitational competition, and PCYC has already been invited to return.
PCYC Coach Jane Roberts said, “We’re very proud of our gymnasts who showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition. We’re already making plans to return to Singapore next year and hope to take more gymnasts from other PCYC centres.”
