PCYC receives funding from Woodside for Weekend safeSPACE™ at Broome PCYC

Published: January 06, 2025 9:34am

PCYC is proud to have been awarded $300k in funding from Woodside to extend its successful safeSPACE™ program to Saturdays at Broome PCYC.

safeSPACE™ is PCYC’s core diversionary program, providing young people with access to qualified youth workers and positive role models, enabling them to participate in recreational, cultural, and developmental activities in a safe environment.

safeSPACE™ is currently delivered at Broome PCYC from Monday to Friday and attracts hundreds of attendances each month.

PCYC CEO Peter Tranter said:

“We offer our sincere thanks to Woodside, whose generosity will have a profound impact on the Broome community, addressing the current gap in services for young people on Saturdays—a time when antisocial behaviour often escalates.”

PCYC Head of Youth Services Laura Dunlop said:

“safeSPACE™ currently supports more than 600 individual young people in Broome. The ability to offer an additional day of service delivery will complement our existing safeSPACE™ program and meet an identified community need, ensuring young people have a safe and supportive environment they can attend at the weekend.”

PCYC is deeply committed to responding to the needs of the Broome community and will continue to co-design programs in collaboration with young people, Aboriginal Elders, Aboriginal corporations, and Community.

The Weekend safeSPACE™ program delivery will commence in January 2025.
