Regionals Unite PCYC Gymnastics Community
PCYC’s gymnastics competition season is in full swing, with the Winter Challenge events running through late July, leading up to the highly anticipated Regionals and Regionals South West competitions, recently hosted by Gosnells and Bunbury PCYC.
Kalgoorlie’s team was thrilled to send full teams to Perth to compete. Their dedication was rewarded with an impressive haul of 38 medals and 33 ribbons, filling both gymnasts and parents with pride. For many of the Kalgoorlie gymnasts, this was their first-ever Perth competition, and their enthusiasm was contagious.
Northam PCYC also celebrated a significant comeback, competing for the first time in a decade with seven Level 3 girls, all of whom had a fantastic experience and placed well across several apparatus categories. The community warmly welcomed their return, with many long-time supporters delighted to see them back in action.
The first weekend of Regionals kicked off with an exciting boys' competition, featuring 20 athletes from Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Rockingham, and Gosnells, spanning Levels 3 to 7, including the debut of Gosnells’ Level 7 boys' team. The girls' competition that followed was equally impressive, showcasing around 90 participants from Kensington, Rockingham, Gosnells, Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Subiaco, and Northam. The event was a celebration of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, as gymnasts from different regions connected with the PCYC gymnastics community.
The second weekend maintained the high energy, showcasing 125 talented girls from Level 4 and above, representing Fremantle, Gosnells, Kalgoorlie, Rockingham, and Subiaco. Each performance reflected months of hard work and dedication. The Regionals South West competition also featured 34 enthusiastic gymnasts from Bunbury and Collie, whose dynamic performances brought fresh excitement to the event. It was heartening to see Bunbury's enthusiastic return, after interruptions from the tornado that impacted their gymnastics facility earlier in the year.
This competition series highlights not only the incredible talent and hard work of our gymnasts but also the strong community that supports them. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers whose efforts made these events a success.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the upcoming States competition at the end of October and our FreeG competition in November. Best of luck to all our participating gymnasts!
